Toio Led Lamp White
Named after the Italian word for “toy,” Toio Led lamp white leans into playful ingenuity as much as function, and this white finish gives its exposed hardware a lighter, more graphic presence than the original black. The design grew out of a readymade approach, borrowing the shape of a car headlamp and the practical logic of fishing-rod rings to guide its power cable, which is what makes it stand out among novelty floor lamps built around a genuine idea rather than a decorative motif.
A telescopic head sits atop a height-adjustable, hexagonal nickel-plated brass stem, connected to a white base of angle iron and formed steel. The fixture casts indirect light from an included PAR56 LED retrofit bulb, drawing 23 watts on a 120-volt supply, with an integrated switch handling on-off control rather than dimming.
First introduced in 1962 and now part of the permanent design collection at MoMA, Toio Led has stayed in production largely unchanged, a rare example of an object designed with visible, working parts instead of a concealed mechanism. In white, it reads as slightly softer and more sculptural, fitting easily into a bright living room or a study that calls for a distinctive, conversation-starting light.
