DELFT BLACK RABBIT VASE BY MARCEL WANDERS
The Rabbit is one of four objects Marcel Wanders selected from his Dutch Design collection for the DELFT BLACK RABBIT VASE BY MARCEL WANDERS — a collaboration that takes Royal Delft’s centuries-old craft tradition and reframes it in a language that is unmistakably contemporary. In black, the familiar becomes strange. The reassuring becomes arresting. And The Rabbit, already one of Wanders’ most characterful objects, becomes something quietly unsettling and completely impossible to look away from.
The form is at once obvious and deliberately ambiguous. A smooth matte black sphere forms the lower body — rounded, compact, egg-like in its self-containment. Above it, two open lobes rise in the form of ears, their interior surfaces covered in an intricate floral and scrollwork pattern rendered in a tone-on-tone reflection technique: black on black, the design visible only in the shift between matte and reflective glaze surfaces, shifting with the light, appearing and disappearing depending on the angle of view. At the junction of body and ears, two red crystal eyes catch whatever light is present in the room and return it — a detail of such precise incongruity that it transforms the entire object from decorative to uncanny in a single glance.
Produced by Royal Delft, the historic Delftware manufacturer whose tradition of blue-and-white hand-painted ceramics stretches back to 1653, The Rabbit in the Black Edition speaks to Royal Delft’s Black and White Reflection Series — a body of work that explores what happens to the language of Delftware when its defining palette is stripped away and replaced with a single, powerful tone. What remains is the craft, the pattern, the detail, and the wit.
At 16 cm tall and 11 cm wide, The bunny sculpture sits precisely at the scale of the considered shelf object — not so large as to anchor a space, but large enough to hold its presence on a bookshelf, a console, a mantlepiece, or within a curated collection of objects where it will always be the one people pick up first.

The dark, moody version of that adorable creature vase and I am HERE for it! The all-matte black finish with a subtle tonal floral texture and those red crystal dot eyes peering out is so hauntingly beautiful. It gives sophisticated Halloween-chic energy year-round. I placed it on my nightstand and it’s the most mysterious, gorgeous thing I own. Love it!

Dark, moody, and mysteriously cute — this black version of the face vase is everything! The matte black finish with the subtle textured floral pattern on the cup portion is so sophisticated, and those little red crystal eyes add just the right pop of drama. It sits on my vanity and gives the whole space such a cool, edgy vibe. Absolutely love it!
