SOLAR DISC BIRD WITH WINGS BISCAY BAY CERAMIC VASE
The SOLAR DISC BIRD WITH WINGS BISCAY BAY CERAMIC VASE by Sara Ricciardi translates the same mythological silhouette of the collection into a cooler, deeper chromatic register — one that feels oceanic, atmospheric, and altogether more enigmatic than its warm-toned counterpart.
The cylindrical body is rendered in a deep, smooth biscay bay glaze — a rich blue-green that reads almost jewel-like under direct light and shifts toward a darker, moodier teal in shadow. Unlike the patterned body of other editions in this collection, this version is intentionally uninterrupted in its finish, allowing the solid glaze to act as a foil for the textural drama of the wings.
Those wings are the centrepiece. Two semi-circular disc forms extend from either side of the body, their surfaces composed of concentrically layered textured rings graduating from the biscay bay of the outer rim through progressively lighter lavender tones to a full violet sugar paper centre — a spectrum that evokes the ultraviolet bloom of a desert flower or the eye of a tropical bird sculpture in full display suitable for home decor.
Polished copper spheres pin wing to body, their warm metallic warmth bridging the cool tones of teal and violet in a pairing of deliberate chromatic tension. Functional as a vase, but presented and best experienced as a sculptural object.
A standout display piece for a console table, library shelf, or design-led interior where colour is treated with the same seriousness as form.
