EDEN SICILIAN MAIOLICA DECORATIVE SCULPTURE
Rooted in one of the world’s most storied ceramic sculpture traditions and animated by one of mythology’s most enduring narratives, the EDEN SICILIAN MAIOLICA DECORATIVE SCULPTURE by Ceramiche Sofia is a small-format centrepiece of extraordinary visual density. The piece takes the form of a wide footed bowl — its round cream body glazed in a luminous mother-of-pearl finish that shifts from ivory to pale gold depending on the light — elevated on a teal-rimmed pedestal base that anchors the composition with a cool, contrasting accent.
From the bowl’s surface, a writhing mass of hand-modelled snakes coils outward in vivid, lifelike relief. Each serpent is individually crafted and hand-painted in olive green and teal-blue scale detail, their sinuous bodies wrapping the bowl from base to rim in layered, interlocking tangles that reward close inspection at every turn. The biblical reference is made explicit at the crown: a cluster of glossy red apples nestled among hand-painted green oak leaves sits atop the rim, completing the Garden of Eden narrative in unmistakable terms.
Produced by the master ceramists of Ceramiche Sofia in the Sicilian maiolica tradition, each home decor piece carries subtle variations in colour, glaze tone, and modelling — enhancing its collectible character and ensuring no two pieces are identical.
