BULLE FLOOR LAMP BY PIERRE CARDIN
The BULLE FLOOR LAMP BY PIERRE CARDIN does not ask permission to be noticed. Towering at just over 39 inches in cream glossy glazed ceramic, its organic cylindrical body is punctured from base to crown with irregularly scattered circular openings — some narrow and deep, others wide and cavernous — that give the form the quality of something grown rather than made. Like sea coral, bone, or volcanic stone frozen mid-formation.
The inspiration is explicit: Le Palais Bulles, the extraordinary bubble-shaped cliffside home that French fashion visionary Pierre Cardin built on the French Riviera — a building that rejected every straight line and right angle in favour of spherical, biomorphic architecture that looked as though it had erupted organically from the earth. The Bulle translates that radical spatial language into a domestic lighting object with the same refusal of convention.
When lit, the GU10 light source within projects an extraordinary play of circular shadow pools and warm glowing halos through every opening — casting the walls and ceiling around it with a shifting, otherworldly light environment that changes as you move through the space. Even unlit, the piece reads as compelling floor lamp.
Set on a flat brushed gold disc base and controlled by a foot switch, the Bulle is CE certified and supplied with a matching coloured wire.
