VITRA AKARI 1AY TABLE LIGHT
For this timeless lighting series, Isamu Noguchi chose the word Akari—the Japanese term for brightness, illumination, and lightness. The name beautifully reflects the spirit of the designs: ethereal, weightless, and filled with a soft, natural glow.
A Return to the Light of the Sun
Noguchi described Akari as “the light of the sun filtered through the paper of shoji.” Each piece transforms the harshness of electric light into a gentle, ambient warmth. The handcrafted washi paper diffuses light delicately, recalling the essence of sunlight and creating an atmosphere of serenity and calm.
